Automotive and Hi-Performance Technology Courses

Visit our blog and learn more about Hi-Performance Technology!

Fast cars. Burning rubber. Raw fuel.

If you have a passion for muscle cars, race cars, and the equipment that allows them to surge from 0 to 60 MPH in mere seconds, Automotive Training Center’s Automotive and Hi-Performance Technology program may be for you.

Experience the World of Hi-Performance Engines

Auto Training Tech Working on an EngineThe Automotive and Hi-Performance program at ATC is an engaging study of all aspects of the automobile and includes three separate courses dedicated to automotive engines. Over the course of an AHP education, you’ll develop your knowledge of engine principles and be led through the theoretical understanding of maximizing an engine’s performance by engineering its parts to extremely finite tolerances.

Guided by ASE-certified instructors on real industry equipment, AHP students have the chance to perform multiple test runs on an engine and/or chassis dynamometer to chart their understanding, progress, and ultimate success with Hi-Performance engines.

With this inside and outside knowledge of engine capabilities as well as hands-on experience applying the best practices for optimizing vehicle performance, Automotive and Hi-Performance Technology students can be eligible for a variety of entry-level positions upon graduation. In addition to the career paths listed in the Automotive Technology program, these include:

  • Automotive machinist
  • Engine builder
  • Performance technician

Hi-Performance Curriculum

Think of some of the fastest, most powerful cars on the road today. A few different manufacturers, and perhaps even a few specific models, will come to mind immediately. These cars maximize engine power, and our Hi-Performance Technology program will expose you to this technology so you’re able to understand how they operate.

After you’ve had the opportunity to learn about engine performance, you’ll see how Hi-Performance technicians engineer the parts of these engines to provide the maximum available power. You’ll understand how engines function and how they’re able to deliver the horsepower and torque that they do.

To understand how to maximize this power, you will learn how to run diagnostic tests to gain an understanding of how engines operate. You will learn how to operate an engine dynamometer, which measures torque and rotational speeds per minute. With an understanding of how engine dynamometers work, you’ll be able to track how vehicles perform and compare results before and after making engine modifications.

Becoming a Hi-Performance Engine Builder

Auto Technicians Working TogetherGraduate from ATC’s Hi-Performance Technology program, and you’ll open up additional career opportunities. Performance engine building is one of them. If you have the know-how and talent to build Hi-Performance engines, you’ll have the chance to work on some of the most powerful vehicles on the road today.

As a performance engine builder, you’ll build and refine engines that allow vehicles to reach higher speeds and RPMs when someone presses down on the accelerator. Not only will you need to know how engine parts work, but you’ll need to have an understanding of how the engine connects to the rest of the vehicle.

Our knowledgeable Hi-Performance instructors help you understand Hi-Performance engines, so that you may have the chance to work on powerful vehicles that are on the road today.

Chassis Dynamometer Testing

At ATC, we’re serious about performance tuning. Our chassis dynamometer is accurate and easy to use. This reliable dyno offers real-world loading and precise control to help understand vehicle performance.

Specific engine performance characteristics will be monitored using this chassis dyno, and the entire powertrain’s performance will be measured. The drive wheels will be on the rollers of the dynamometer, while the pedal will be pushed down after the brakes are disengaged. This piece of equipment measures the power levels generated by the engine.

It’s important to keep a Hi-Performance vehicle as a Hi-Performance vehicle every time it takes to the roads. With an understanding of how engines work, and how the technology you’ll be using in the works, you’ll be prepared for a successful career as a Hi-Performance automotive technician.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our AHP Program

What’s the difference between enrolling in ATC’s Automotive and Hi-Performance Technology program vs. the Automotive Technology program?

The main difference between studying Automotive and Hi-Performance Technology versus Automotive Technology is the focus placed on engine exploration.

While Automotive Technology students learn about vehicle engines with a focus on maintaining optimal engine performance through routine maintenance, AHP students go through an in-depth engine education, focusing on this crucial piece of performance equipment on a more intricate level. After developing advanced skills through experience, Hi-Performance students can go onto career paths in Performance-driven fields like engine building.

Being knowledgeable about how the engine specifically interacts with the rest of the vehicle means that AHP graduates can also pursue several roles, such as automotive technician, service consultant, or technical instructor after a several years of in-the-field experience.

Where is Automotive and Hi-Performance Technology Taught?
