Welding & Non-Structural Damage Repair

This part of the Collision Reconditioning Technology program is important, as you’ll learn the principles of:

  • MIG welding
  • Cutting
  • Brazing
  • MIG brazing
  • Squeeze type resistance spot welding

Different welding projects will give you the opportunity to heat metals and shape mild and HSS steel and aluminum. This kind of hands-on experience prepares you for the real world.

As you’re getting hands-on experience, you’ll practice using:

  • Hand tools
  • Disc grinders
  • Drills
  • Hammers
  • Dollies

Surface Preparation

This tackles the aspects of priming, including available primers, their uses, and how to prepare a surface for repairs. Gain experience working in the shop and learn how to maintain equipment, becoming an expert in:

  • Power and hand sanding
  • Wet and dry sanding
  • Feather edging
  • Taping and masking

Structural Damage Repair

This course will cover uni-body and frame repair, along with major collision repair. Following an accident, there may be major structural damage that needs repair, so this course will focus entirely on vehicles that have seen severe damage.

Use measurement gauges and dimension charts to correct uni-bodies and frames, so a vehicle can be returned to the road in a safe manner. Familiarize yourself with some of the top technology available, like the Chief S-21 frame straightening bench.

Painting and Refinishing

You’ll be a painting and refinishing master after completing this course, working on top-coat finishes and final buffing and polishing for high gloss finishes. Extensive shop experience will occur with:

  • Color matching
  • Shading
  • Blending
  • Panel refinishing
  • Spot repair

Cost Estimating and Damage Repair

Learn how to prepare a cost estimate for a driver following a crash. Manuals and labor/parts guides are used to provide accurate estimates for metal, suspension, steering, and other mechanical parts.

Calculate labor costs for refinishing, complete small and major repairs, and determine where there may be overlap in the estimate itself.

Computer software and the CCC-One system aid in determining estimates, so these tools will become your friends, too.
