Wondering how to become a diesel mechanic? These engines rely on knowledgeable mechanics to keep running smoothly each and every day. Here’s the roadmap to becoming a diesel mechanic. It all begins at our diesel mechanic school.

Maintaining and Repairing Diesel Engines

diesel mechanic schoolThe Automotive and Diesel Technology program at ATC is perfect for those who find themselves intrigued by heavy-duty engines and complex fuel systems. Your expertise can be highly valuable to various industries because diesel engines power buses, 18-wheelers, farm equipment, cranes, excavators, and even backup generators for housing complexes and business parks.

Sure, you’ll be working on large tow trucks and bulldozers, too, but there are so many ways that diesel engines make an impact each and every day. The bottom line? These diesel engines need attention to provide the durability and efficiency they’re known for.

Your daily duties will include using scan tools to diagnose and identify an issue, inspecting vital systems, and repairing and replacing damaged parts. Diesel engines produce higher amounts of torque than their gas counterparts, but their durability is tied to how well maintained they are. As a diesel mechanic, that’s where you come in.

Specializing In Diesel

diesel mechanic schoolWhen you’re enrolled in the ATC diesel courses here at our Exton campus, you’ll be working with experienced instructors who understand diesel engines inside and out. You’ll spend plenty of time in the classroom, but also about half of your time in the shop learning how to apply information and techniques.

When you’re in the shop area, you’ll be working on diesel engines from well-known brands, like Cummins, Caterpillar, and Detroit Diesel. Time will be spent on the diesel engine itself, for sure. However, you’re also going to get a well-rounded education.

We’ll focus on electrical systems, brakes, the suspension, and steering systems. As a diesel mechanic, you need to be an expert problem solver. Here, you’ll learn which solutions will provide the best results.
