Horsepower in High-Performance Cars

When a high-performance car is out on the road, it’s possible you may hear it before you see it. These cars pack in the horsepower under the hood and are designed to be a little bit loud. Needless to say, they make their presence felt.

Automotive Training Center is taking a closer look at some of the most powerful cars available on the market. Don’t blink if you see these cars on the road, or you just might miss them.

Bringing the Power: Top High-Performance Cars

High Performance CarsHigh-performance cars can bring more speed and power to the table than the average vehicle. You may find some of these engines out on professional tracks and speedways but the truth of it is you can find them on some local roads too.

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

The Demon is the true beast on this list, powered by a 6.2-liter V8 HEMI® engine. It’s capable of producing an earth-shaking 808 horsepower. Want even more power? If 100 octane race gas is used, it can reach up to 840 horsepower. It can go from 0-60 MPH in just 2.3 seconds. It’s the first production car to come with a liquid-to-air charge air cooler chiller system.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Coupe

This edition of the Corvette features a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, and makes 755 horsepower. Shift with the 7-speed manual or 8-speed paddle shift transmission. The carbon-fiber halo hood and engine cover are designed for performance. As the fastest production Corvette ever built, it can reach 212 MPH. The selectable driving modes tailor the Corvette for any road ahead.

2018 Dodge Challenger/Charger SRT Hellcat

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT HellcatBoth the Challenger and Charger feature the SRT Hellcat engine, which produces 707 horsepower and cranks out 650 lb-ft of torque. The 6.2-liter V8 engine is linked to a 6-speed manual transmission. The rumble of the engine is truly impressive. While they don’t match the Demon in horsepower, they are both speedsters: The Challenger can reach 199 MPH, and the Charger’s aerodynamic frame allows it to hit 204 MPH.

2018 Ferrari 488 GTB

Ferrari has long been synonymous with speed. This 2-door, 2-seat coupe is certainly flashy. The 3.9-liter 8-cylinder engine is designed to exert 660 horsepower. The V8 engine features an ion-sensing system, which controls ignition timing and predicts misfires. The 488 GTB has been dynamically designed to be as close to a track car as possible. With the gearbox featuring specific ratios, it makes the most of the torque the engine can provide.

2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe

2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 CoupeWith modern technology and performance enhancements this sports car can be driven on the road, track, or drag strip. The supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine provides drivers with 650 horsepower and an available 10-speed paddle-shifting automatic transmission allows drivers to take control for maximum performance. The large upper and lower grille openings allow for maximum cooling, while the carbon-fiber composite hood air extractor moves air to decrease lift and increase performance.

If you have a passion for muscle cars, racecars, and the equipment that allows them to surge from 0 to 60 in mere seconds, Automotive Training Center’s Automotive and Hi-Performance Technology program may be for you.
