Fishing is one of the best outdoor activities there is. While you can always do it with friends or family, there’s never any shame in spending some time out on the water alone.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or grabbing the fishing pole and bait for the first time, these are the best fishing spots in Chester County to check out.

Hibernia Park

Best Fishing Spots Chester County PAHibernia Park features the Brandywine Creek, which flows for a mile through the park. Averaging 20-30’ in width and 18-36” in depth, the Brandywine is popular among local anglers as a standout cold water fishery.

Chambers Lake is a 90-acre behemoth with warm water species. You’ll find panfish, channel catfish, chain pickerel, and smallmouth and largemouth bass. Find the public parking lot and boat ramp off Wagontown Road, with fishing allowed 24 hours a day. From the Lake Trail, access the publish fishing pier. Non-motorized or electric-powered boats are permitted on the lake. There’s also a child’s fishing pond for those 12 and under.

Kurtz Fish Hatchery

Kurtz Fish Hatchery has served the public since the late 1950s. This family-owned and -operated business is in its third generation. Spend a day fishing at the pay-to-fish lake. Located in beautiful northern Chester County, the Kurtz lake is 28 acres, with a mile walk around the lake. It’s open from May through October, seven days a week.

The hatchery also has a large variety of fish to meet all of your pond-stocking needs. If you’re looking for bait and tackle products, you’ll also be able to find them here, or at one of Kurtz’s many vending machines throughout the area.

Marsh Creek State Park

Best Fishing Spots Chester County PAMarsh Creek delivers excellent fishing opportunities, with many warmwater species found here. Plenty of fishers visit Marsh Creek to target the largemouth bass, but some anglers have been lucky enough to land 40-inch-long tiger muskies. You’ll also find channel catfish, black crappie, and panfish here, too.

The lake is specifically designated as a big bass lake. In the springtime, it’s best to fish the upper, shallower, end of the lake, looking for submerged brush. Ice fishing is also permitted on the 525-acre lake. This is a productive way to catch some panfish, but be sure the ice is safe enough before advancing. Four inches of solid ice is the recommended minimum thickness for one person.
