High Performance Parts: What's Best For Your Engine

Hi-Performance Parts: What’s Best for Your Engine?

To get the most out of your vehicle’s engine with performance parts, they need to be the right fit and installed properly. There are many high-performance parts out there capable of increasing horsepower and helping your engine reach its full potential*.

What parts are out there? What’s best for your engine? Automotive Training Center is taking a closer look at the high-performance parts that are must-haves for those with a need for speed.

Increasing Horsepower in Your Engine

Engine ModificationsThere are some bolt-on engine modifications that can be the key to unlocking more horsepower and torque. These can provide faster acceleration, better pass-and-merge ability, or increased towing capacity. Here are some of the parts that can transform a car’s engine.

Mufflers

You might want to get rid of the stock muffler your vehicle came with for an aftermarket exhaust system. A slip-on muffler can be installed to help in unleashing the power and can improve exhaust note. Performance mufflers are designed for superior flow and will provide a deep tone without any noise in the cabin.

Cylinder Heads

The cylinder head is the main part that brings air/fuel to be burned in, and exhaust out, of the engine. O.E. manufactured cylinder heads can be heavy but high-performance cylinder heads are lighter and better suited for street and track performance. Many performance cylinder heads are made from aluminum, which dissipates heat faster and helps cool the engine.

Air Filters

Air FilterWith an air filter or cold air intake kit, you’ll have parts which both look great and also help air flow. Cold air kits are able to boost horsepower and can even make a vehicle more fuel efficient. Average air intake tubes aren’t built for performance or fuel economy. A performance air filter is made of a higher quality material, which can provide a speed boost.

Carburetors

If your car has a carburetor, it can be upgraded. A carburetor is designed to mix air and gasoline, for burning inside the engine. If you have an older car, upgrading the barrels can increase performance. For instance, a two-barrel carburetor can be upgraded to four. A new intake manifold will need to be installed as well but you’ll be adding speed.

Crankshafts

Crankshafts help to convert linear energy into rotational energy, enabling the wheels to move the car forward. A typical OEM crankshaft will be a bit heavy, which can hold a vehicle back a bit. Lightweight cranks allow for an engine to rev quicker and are often sought after in racing applications. The reduced mass allows for quicker, more nimble acceleration.

Install the Right Parts

For a high-performance experience in a vehicle, high-performance parts are needed. More power means better performance and acceleration. As you may have seen by reading this, often times, the best performance parts are lightweight and durable.
