Starting Your Marine Mechanic Career
The marine mechanic courses at ATC take place exclusively at our Warminster campus. The Marine Service Technology program has been a part of ATC since 2006. We are a test site and training location for many well-known names in the industry. You’ll work on inboard and outboard engines manufactured by Yamaha, Honda, and Mercury Marine, along with other manufacturers.
While you’ll have the chance to work on the engines which power various boats, you’ll also gain experience learning about the different support systems and sub-systems, from electrical to plumbing to air conditioning and heating.
Some of those who have graduated through the marine program at our location will even specialize in gelcoat and fiberglass repair. After all, a boat needs to function well, but they need to look good, too.
The Daily Life of a Marine Technician
What does a day in the life of a marine technician look like? You’ll be spending time on the water, that’s for certain. You might be working for a boat manufacturer, too, helping to ensure that engines are ready to go for boats.
Boating has become an increasingly popular activity in recent years. Millions of people go boating each year, so marine service technicians are needed to service and maintain boats. After a few years of experience at a marina working on boats, you might become a service manager and oversee a team of marine technicians.
It helps to have outstanding customer service skills in the world of marine service, too. You need to be well-versed in a range of repairs, but also must be able to communicate with boat owners and operators when it comes to explaining what work has been done.
