Our Automotive and Diesel Technology Program near Philadelphia
If you’ve always been intrigued by heavy-duty engines and complex fuel systems, then you’ll definitely want to check out our Automotive and Diesel Technology program. Across the country, many manufacturers and dealers are searching for technicians who have in-depth training on diesel.
When enrolled in our program, you’ll be working on diesel engines from top brand names like Cummins, Mitsubishi, and Caterpillar. These engines may be of the two-stroke or four-stroke variety. You don’t just work on one engine here at ATC; you will become familiar with various manufacturer OEMs. You’ll be able to take advantage of time spent in the classroom learning from knowledgeable technicians.
However, about 50% of your time will be spent in the shop gaining hands-on experience working on diesel engines and becoming familiar with some of the technology you’ll be working with every day. There are several career paths, too.
You may become a diesel technician for trucks or buses. You may become a heavy equipment technician. There are many paths to success. We’ll help you find the best one.
A Day In the Life of a Diesel Mechanic
A diesel mechanic will show up to work each day with a solid understanding of any appointments and the work being done. You’ll perform diesel inspections, going over your checklist to zero in on any engine malfunctions to help solve a client’s concerns.
You’ll also perform the routine jobs, too, like rotating truck tires, handling an oil change, or taking care of a brake inspection. Our shop will give you the experience needed for a career in the industry. You’ll gain practice working on jack stands and hydraulic lifts, too. This equipment will become a part of your daily life as a diesel technician, and here, we’ll be sure you know it like the back of your hand.
Best of all, you won’t encounter daily homework like you would in college or in other schools. Acquire a part-time job while still in school, and get into the workforce sooner through ATC.
Diesel Mechanic School Courses at ATC
Before you apply to Automotive Training Center, you may be wondering what some of the courses at our campus are like. Our instructors are always ready to work with the next generation of diesel repair technicians here at ATC.
They will provide you with the knowledge you need to succeed in the industry, starting in the Diesel Engines course. This course places a focus on automotive and truck applications, as you learn all about lubricants and the assembly, reassembly, and overhaul of diesel engines.
Shop work focuses on real-life applications that you’ll encounter while working on diesel engines, whether light truck or automotive.
This course focuses on:
- Diesel air intake systems
- Injectors
- Turbochargers
You’ll also become familiar with electronic engine controls like:
- EUI
- HEUI
- Electronic common rail
The Diesel Fuel Systems, course, meanwhile, allows students to disassembly and inspect injector nozzles, reassembling them to ensure the fuel system is ready for the road. You’ll practice using fuel injector calibration tools, testing and adjusting nozzles, and gain hands-on experience with other diesel equipment.
The courses mentioned above are exclusively part of the diesel program here at ATC. However, you will also get a fundamental understanding of vehicles through courses taught in all programs.
