What Does the Diesel Program Include?

You may be wondering what courses are part of the diesel program here at ATC. Our ASE-certified instructors are always eager to help students learn about the industry. It begins in the Diesel Engines course, which focuses on automotive and truck applications. You’ll learn about the assembly, reassembly, and overhaul of diesel engines.

This course will place a focus on:

  • Diesel air intake systems
  • Injectors
  • Turbochargers

You’ll also learn about electronic engine controls, such as:

  • EUI
  • HEUI
  • Electronic common rail

Practical shop work will also include the disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of injector nozzles.

To acquire your diploma, you will also take the following courses:

  • Manual Drive Train & Axles

  • Engine Repair
  • Suspension & Steering
  • Computer Controls & Electronic Diagnostics

While plenty of time will be spent in the classroom learning about diesel engines and key principles, our knowledgeable technicians will take you into the shop for that important hands-on experience. As a matter of fact, about half of your time will be spent in the shop, working on diesel engines and becoming familiar with the technology that you’ll be using every day.

There are several career paths available once you’ve graduated from Automotive Training Center. Some graduates have become heavy equipment technicians, agricultural equipment technicians, and manufacturer representatives.

We want all students to feel welcome here at ATC, which is why we offer career and student services to those enrolled in the diesel program at our Exton or Warminster campus. Our career and student services personnel monitor grades and attendance to ensure you’re on the right track.

A “New Start” meeting will start your ATC experience on the right foot. We take the time in your first week to talk about goals and what you hope to accomplish here at ATC in the diesel program. We can also assist with financial budgeting questions you may have and explain how scholarships work.

What’s a Day in the Life of a Diesel Mechanic Like?

You’ll perform routine jobs outside of the diesel inspections like safety checks and oil changes, too. We provide you with the important experience needed to kickstart your career in the industry. Learn all about the diesel equipment you’ll be using on a daily basis and work with experienced instructors who have years of combined experienced in the diesel industry.

You can even bring your own vehicle into the shop to work on it. Whether you own a unique old-school luxury car that uses diesel, or a powerful truck, it’s a great way to get some practice while providing care for a vehicle you love.
