Automotive Technology Program

Brake RepairThe Automotive Technology program is the heart and soul of ATC, with both daytime and nighttime classes offered to students. The program itself covers the theory of operation and servicing of transmissions, with a focus on basic vehicle maintenance, service, and repair of important engine components and brakes.

The following courses are taught:

  • Manual Drivetrain & Axles
  • Electrical Systems
  • Air Conditioning & Heating
  • Engine Repair
  • Brakes

Other courses in this program include Suspension & Steering, Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles, and Electrical/Electronics II.

In today’s cars, the computers and electronics are just as important as the engine and the transmission. This program will prepare you to handle simple vehicle repairs and more complex ones too. In our modern shop facilities, you’ll use industry-standard tools and procedures on both foreign and domestic vehicles.

The daytime Automotive Technology program takes 64 weeks to complete, while the evening program can be completed in 84 weeks.

It is expected that several “baby boomer” technicians will be retiring in the coming years, which means there will be a shortage of automotive technicians. There will be many opportunities for technicians trying to break into the field. What can you expect from this field? According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average yearly salary for mechanics in 2019 was $42,090 or $20.24 per hour.* These figures can be affected by where you work and your schedule, but it provides a starting point.
